Tokyo Game Show 2026 finished with 257,642 visitors across four days at Makuhari Messe, after organiser CESA cancelled the fifth and final day, Monday, September 21, as Typhoon No. 25 approached the Kanto region. The show that opened as the longest TGS ever therefore closed a day short, and with fewer visitors than the last two years, according to attendance figures reported by Nikkei xTREND.
Day-by-day attendance
Business days ran Thursday and Friday, and public days on the weekend, at Makuhari Messe and TKP Tokyo Bay Makuhari Hall. Final Weapon published CESA's per-day breakdown:
| Day | Date | Type | Visitors |
|---|
| 1 | September 17 | Business Day | 53,630 |
| 2 | September 18 | Business Day | 52,545 |
| 3 | September 19 | Public Day | 78,678 |
| 4 | September 20 | Public Day | 72,789 |
| 5 | September 21 | Public Day (cancelled) | — |
The total of 257,642 is down from 263,101 in 2025 and 274,739 in 2024, per Shacknews. The comparison is not clean: 2025 was a four-day show, while 2026 was meant to run five days before the weather cut it to four. CESA has not said what the cancelled Monday, a national holiday in Japan, was expected to draw.
Record exhibitors, more business meetings
The visitor count fell, but the trade side grew. Under the theme "The Longest Ever, Five Days Full of Play," the 30th-anniversary show gathered 1,138 companies and organisations from 53 countries and regions, beating last year's record, as reported by Gadget Pilipinas from CESA's figures. CESA counted a record 3,673 meetings through its TGS Business Matching System, and 25 official programmes streamed on the show's YouTube, X and Twitch accounts and on Niconico, with partner streams on DouYu and bilibili for China and IGN for Europe and North America.
How CESA handled the typhoon
CESA, chaired by Haruhiro Tsujimoto, issued its first typhoon notice on September 19. Sunday, September 20 went ahead as scheduled, with a warning that facilities or activities could be modified for safety. Monday, September 21 was cancelled "for the entire day" because winds and rain were expected to intensify in the afternoon, raising concern about public transport disruptions and whether attendees could get home safely. Tickets for September 21 are being refunded through the ticket vendors that sold them; September 20 tickets are not refundable because the day proceeded.
A second notice on September 20 confirmed that the Monday "official programme" would stream without an audience:
- Red Bull Revenge, 10:30 a.m. to 1:10 p.m.: an invitation-only Street Fighter 6 exhibition in which eight top players replay historic rivalries.
- Ending Stage, 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.: the show's closing programme.
Some exhibitors also ran their own online streams, and CESA said schedules and archives would be published on the official TGS 2026 site as they became available.
TGS 2027 dates
CESA has already locked in next year: Tokyo Game Show 2027 runs September 16 to 20, 2027, again five days, with Makuhari Messe again the planned venue. Nothing beyond the dates has been detailed. It will be the second attempt at the five-day format that the typhoon cut short this year.
What the show meant for Filipino gamers
There is no Philippine-specific announcement to report from TGS 2026's closing figures; the show is a Japanese trade and consumer event. The local connection is indirect: Filipino tech press covered the public days on the floor, and hardware that Filipino buyers watch for, including MSI's Claw 8 EX AI+ handheld and the ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X20, was on display, per Gadget Pilipinas' liveblog recap. No Philippine pricing or availability was announced for those products at the show, so for now TGS 2026 is a preview of what may reach local shelves rather than a launch.
