Synology released DiskStation Manager 7.4 on June 16, 2026, marking a deliberate architectural shift toward keeping AI workloads and sensitive data on local hardware rather than routing them through third-party cloud services.
The headline feature is the DSM Agent, a workflow automation engine that runs directly on GPU-equipped NAS devices and Synology AI appliances. It handles tasks like natural language content generation and real-time translation without sending data off-premises — a meaningful distinction for organizations with strict data sovereignty requirements. The release is version 7.4-90075.
Cluster Manager is the other major addition for enterprise users, consolidating management of multiple Synology storage systems into a single interface. It supports workload migration between nodes and centralized data protection policies, which simplifies multi-site deployments that previously required jumping between individual DSM dashboards.
On the backup side, ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 significantly expands platform coverage: it can now protect workloads on AWS EC2, Azure Virtual Machines, Proxmox, Nutanix AHV, and Google Workspace environments. AI-powered anomaly and malware detection has been added to flag potential ransomware activity before it can fully propagate. A companion hardware appliance, the DP5200, was introduced alongside APM 2.0 for organizations that want a purpose-built backup node.
Synology also used COMPUTEX 2026 (June 2-5, Taipei) as a showcase for broader updates: the Bee Series expanded with BeeStation Plus for home private cloud use, and Deep Search — a local, privacy-first AI search tool — arrived for macOS and Windows. The Office Suite gained ChatPlus and Meet for AI-assisted transcription and translation, keeping conversation data on the customer's own hardware.
The flagship enterprise storage launch tied to this cycle is the PAS7700, a 4U all-flash NVMe array scaling to 216 drives and 1.65PB of raw capacity, delivering up to 2 million 4K random-read IOPS and 30GB/s of sequential throughput. It targets AI inference, VDI, and database workloads.
DSM 7.4 is rolling out now to compatible NAS devices. The PAS7700 is available for enterprise procurement; other products have staggered launch schedules to be announced.
