Samsung Electronics Philippines has introduced Samsung for Education, a comprehensive initiative designed to help local schools accelerate digital learning through a structured combination of hardware, security infrastructure, and teacher development. Rather than selling devices and leaving institutions to figure out the rest, Samsung is positioning this as an end-to-end ecosystem — from the classroom tablet in a student's hands to the professional certification a teacher earns.
The program covers both K-12 and higher education institutions, and real deployments are already underway at schools including St. Joseph's College.
The Technology Layer
At the program's center are Galaxy Tab devices equipped with S Pen and Samsung Notes, the company's native tools for handwriting, annotation, and collaborative note-taking in academic settings. These are secured with Samsung Knox, the enterprise-grade device management platform that handles centralized security policies, protects school data at rest and in transit, and enables secure digital assessments — exam environments where device access needs to be controlled precisely.
Beyond Samsung's own tools, the initiative includes partnerships with third-party providers to deliver classroom management platforms and AI-powered learning tools, giving schools the flexibility to layer in curriculum-specific applications on top of the Galaxy Tab foundation.
The full hardware offering extends beyond tablets: Samsung for Education also includes interactive displays and smartwatches as part of the connected classroom vision — though the primary focus at launch is the Galaxy Tab and Knox combination.
Teacher Development and Certification
One of the program's more distinctive components is Samsung Learning Hub, a structured professional development system for educators. The hub offers training modules that progress from digital teaching fundamentals to advanced classroom strategies, alongside mentorship programs developed in partnership with education organizations.
Teachers can earn two formal credentials through the system:
- Samsung Certified Educator — foundational recognition for educators integrating digital tools into daily teaching
- Samsung Certified Innovator — a higher designation for educators who have demonstrated sustained and creative use of technology across their curriculum
The certification framework gives individual teachers a tangible professional development track, rather than a one-time training event that typically has low carry-through.
School Recognition Pathway
Alongside individual certifications, Samsung for Education includes a school-level recognition system with two tiers:
- Samsung School — awarded to institutions that meaningfully embed technology into day-to-day instruction
- Samsung Digital Lighthouse School — a higher designation for schools with established digital learning environments, certified teaching staff, and demonstrated long-term adoption
The progression gives institutions an external marker of digital readiness — relevant for accreditation and competitive positioning among families choosing schools.

Carl Nordenberg, VP and Regional Head of Mobile eXperience Business for Samsung Southeast Asia, framed the initiative around empowerment: "technology should empower people — creating an ecosystem where teachers feel supported, schools are digitally ready, and students are engaged to learn with confidence."
The Competitive Landscape
Samsung for Education lands in a market already served by Google (Chromebooks and Google Workspace for Education) and Apple (iPad and Apple School Manager). Samsung's differentiation rests on Knox — which is arguably more robust for enterprise-style device management than consumer-first competitors — and the formal certification and school recognition ladder, which gives institutions and educators a structured progression that open-ended platforms typically lack.
