Free TESDA AWS courses in cloud computing and artificial intelligence are now part of the TESDA Online Program, after the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) signed a Strategic Training Agreement on September 29 at the TESDA Complex in Taguig City. TESDA Secretary Kiko Benitez and AWS Philippines Country Manager Precious Lim signed the deal, Astig.ph reported.
Which TESDA AWS courses are free?
Three courses open the partnership, all with no course fees and no prerequisites:
- Fundamentals of AI — an introduction to machine learning concepts. No coding background is required.
- AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner — cloud basics covering AWS services, security, architecture and pricing. This track prepares learners for AWS's entry-level cloud certification.
- AWS Certified AI Practitioner — practical AI skills, including generative AI (AI that produces text, images or code) and responsible AI principles.
The courses are self-paced online modules, so learners only need an internet connection and can study on their own schedule.
Can finishers take the certification exams for free?
Possibly — and this is the part with real money attached. Learners who complete the certification-track courses may qualify for vouchers that cover the official AWS certification exams at no cost, subject to availability and the policies of TESDA and AWS. Eligible learners may also apply at the TESDA Women's Center for AWS Academy's structured learning pathways, again subject to availability.
Those conditions matter: the free courses are guaranteed, the free exams are not. Check the voucher terms before planning around a free certification.
How do you enroll?
Enrollment runs through the TESDA Online Program portal at e-tesda.gov.ph. Create an account, look for the AWS courses among the offerings, and start the modules. The program is open to all Filipinos — students, job seekers and career shifters included — and the Fundamentals of AI course in particular assumes no technical background.
The AWS deal also fits an established pattern rather than a one-off experiment. TESDA has used the same playbook before, partnering with UNESCO-UNEVOC and the HP Foundation to fold free AI, entrepreneurship and digital-skills courses from the HP LIFE program into the same online platform earlier this year. The AWS courses extend that catalog into vendor certifications — credentials tied to the cloud provider that a large share of employers actually run on.
What comes after the first three courses?
TESDA and AWS plan to expand the catalog with courses on cloud architecture, security and databases, among other technology subjects. The partnership also covers regional training events and a wider rollout through technology institutions and provincial training centers, so access should not stay concentrated in Metro Manila.
"Skills development is ultimately about creating opportunities for people," Benitez said at the signing. Lim framed the goal the same way: "Cloud and AI skills should be for everyone."
A credential that counts in the local job market
Cloud and AI certifications are among the credentials Philippine IT and business process management (IT-BPM) employers actually screen for, and AWS certifications normally cost real money to attempt — which has kept them out of reach for many entry-level applicants. A government-backed free route changes that math, especially as AI screening spreads through Philippine hiring. The practical advice is simple: the courses cost nothing but time, and a Cloud Practitioner or AI Practitioner line on a resume is a concrete, verifiable signal in a market that increasingly filters applicants by machine.
