Filipino teachers can now take Google's AI training at no cost: self-paced modules that run 15 to 45 minutes each, end with a digital badge, and are being lined up for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit toward Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) license renewal. The rollout of the Google AI Educator Series in the Philippines, first reported by Newsbytes.PH, covers all three education agencies at once: the Department of Education (DepEd), the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). As of publication, Newsbytes.PH is the only outlet that has detailed the CHED and TESDA arrangements, so treat those specifics as reported rather than widely confirmed.

What the Google AI Educator Series teaches

Google's official course page describes the series as free, standards-aligned AI literacy training for educators at every level. Sessions are grouped into three tracks: Foundational Understanding, Pedagogical Applications (split by grade level), and Administrative Applications. Modules for primary and secondary teachers run 10 to 15 minutes; those for college faculty run 30 to 45 minutes. Each session ends with a short quiz, and passing it earns a digital certificate badge.

The lessons are built around Gemini, Google's AI assistant. Per Newsbytes.PH, the modules cover Gemini's Guided Learning feature, which walks students through a problem with Socratic-style questions instead of handing over the answer, and its Deep Research feature for academic papers, taught in a module called "Planning the Inquiry." The curriculum also takes up prompt engineering, data privacy, academic integrity, and responsible AI use in the classroom.

"Technology's greatest potential in education lies in empowering the people who make learning happen every day," Google Philippines country manager Prep Palacios said when the wider DepEd partnership was announced, per GMA News.

How to start, depending on where you teach

  • DepEd teachers. The series has been available through DepEd's Bureau of Learning Delivery Hub since September 28, according to Newsbytes.PH. A joint circular formally endorsing it nationwide is still expected.
  • College and university faculty. CHED will issue an advisory naming the series an optional professional development resource, in line with CHED Memorandum Order No. 21, series of 2026, on responsible AI use in higher education.
  • Tech-voc trainers. The courses sit inside the TESDA Online Program, the agency's free e-learning platform, the same portal that hosts TESDA's free AWS cloud and AI courses.
  • Everyone else. The modules are self-serve through the Google Learning Center, with the badge catalog listed on Google's certifications site, so private school teachers and reviewers can take them without waiting for an agency memo.

CPD units are coming, but not final yet

The most practical detail for public school teachers is still pending. Newsbytes.PH reports that accreditation by the National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP) will let participants earn CPD units, the credits PRC requires for professional license renewal. Until that accreditation and DepEd's joint circular are issued, finishing the modules earns badges, not credit, so teachers chasing CPD points should keep their completion records.

Part of a much bigger teacher-upskilling push

The series lands on top of Project S.I.N.A.G. (Supercharging Instruction for National Advancement with Google), the DepEd-Google partnership announced in June that aims to train more than one million public school teachers and staff, who already get Gemini access through their official DepEd accounts, per GMA News. That program carries its own no-cost certifications in three levels: Fundamental, Advanced, and AI Mastery. Free AI tools aimed at Philippine classrooms have been arriving from several directions this year, including Hiraia, an offline AI science tutor built for Filipino students.

What happens next: the DepEd joint circular and the NEAP accreditation. Once both are out, a free 15-minute module on a teacher's phone starts counting toward keeping their license.
