Filipino college students can now use one of Google's paid AI plans without paying for it. Google announced on August 19, 2026 that eligible students in more than 140 markets — including the Philippines — can get 12 months of Google AI Plus at no cost. The plan sells for ₱285 per month here, so the free year is worth around ₱3,420. The offer runs until December 31, 2026, and signing up takes only a school email and a few minutes of verification.
This guide explains what Google AI Plus includes, who qualifies, how to claim it, and what happens when the free year ends.
What is Google AI Plus and what do students get?
Google AI Plus is the entry tier of Google's paid AI subscriptions, sitting below Google AI Pro (₱1,100 per month) and Google AI Ultra (from ₱5,999 per month) on the official Google One plans page for the Philippines. The free student plan carries the same benefits as the paid version:
- 400 GB of cloud storage shared across Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. For comparison, a free Google Account starts with 5 GB, expandable to 15 GB by adding a phone number.
- Double the Gemini usage limits of a free account, so you hit the daily ceiling on chats, image generation, and file uploads far less often.
- Access to Gemini Omni, along with Gemini features inside Gmail, extra tools in Gemini Notebook, and access to Google Flow, the company's AI video tool.
For a student writing papers, building reviewers, and storing years of requirements in Drive, the storage bump alone covers most of a college career.
Who qualifies for the free year?
Google's official help page for the student offers sets clear rules. To claim the free year of AI Plus you must:
- Be enrolled at a higher-education institution — undergraduate and graduate students qualify, but junior and senior high school students do not.
- Use a personal Google Account. School-issued Workspace for Education accounts are not eligible.
- Verify your student status through SheerID (a third-party verification service) using a valid school email address.
- Have a qualifying payment method on your Google Account.
- Not be part of a Google family group or subscribed through a partner such as Google Fi or a Pixel bundle.
The Philippines is on the supported list. The few excluded markets are Albania, Bolivia, Canada, Hong Kong, Macau, and Tunisia — plus the United States, where students get a different deal: a free year of the pricier Google AI Pro instead. Take note that some AI features carry an 18+ age requirement under Google's plan terms.
How to claim Google AI Plus for free
- Go to one.google.com/ai-student and sign in with your personal Google Account.
- Select the free 12-month Google AI Plus student plan.
- Complete the SheerID verification using your school email address or proof of enrollment.
- Add a payment method to finish the sign-up. You will not be charged during the 12-month trial.
The offer must be redeemed by December 31, 2026, the deadline for the registration window.
The discounted AI Pro and YouTube Premium bundle
The free AI Plus year is one of three student deals Google is running in the Philippines. The local pricing breaks down like this:
| Plan | Regular price | Student price | Storage |
|---|
| Google AI Plus | ₱285/month | Free for 12 months | 400 GB |
| Google AI Pro | ₱1,100/month | ₱275/month, up to 4 years | 5 TB |
| Google AI Pro + YouTube Premium | — | ₱355/month, up to 4 years | 5 TB |
The AI Pro student price is a 75% cut, and it includes 4x higher Gemini limits plus YouTube Premium Lite, which removes most ads. Paying ₱80 more per month upgrades that to full YouTube Premium — worth weighing now that a standalone YouTube Premium individual plan costs ₱189 per month in the Philippines. Students on the discounted AI Pro plans must re-verify through SheerID every 12 months, for up to four consecutive years.
What happens after the free year?
This is the part to mark on your calendar. When the 12 months end, the subscription automatically converts to the regular paid plan at ₱285 per month unless you cancel first, according to Google's help page. You can cancel any time during the trial and keep the benefits until the period ends, so a calendar reminder set just before your 12 months end costs nothing and prevents a surprise charge on a student budget.
Should you claim it?
There is little reason not to. Free AI access deals have been stacking up for Filipino users this year — Globe bundles ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok from ₱49 through AI Fiesta, and DepEd secured Copilot access for a million public school teachers — but this is the only one that hands students a full paid Google tier, storage included, for nothing. The single real caveat is the payment method requirement and the auto-renewal behind it. Claim the year, use the 400 GB, and cancel before month 12 if you do not want to start paying.
