Insta360 has never been shy about pushing compact cameras into territory once reserved for much bulkier hardware. With the Luna Ultra, launched June 11, 2026, the company is making its most ambitious push yet — a pocket gimbal camera co-engineered with Leica that challenges the DJI Osmo Pocket directly on image quality.
What's Inside
The heart of the Luna Ultra is a 1-inch sensor paired with a Leica Summicron 20mm f/1.8 lens — a combination that delivers up to 14 stops of dynamic range and supports 8K video at 30fps or 4K up to 240fps for slow-motion work. There's also a secondary 1/1.3-inch telephoto sensor with a 60mm-equivalent f/2.0 lens, giving the camera a genuine zoom reach: 3x optical, 6x lossless, and up to 12x digital.
Stills cap out at 37MP in UltraPhoto mode, with 200MP panoramas on offer. Color profiles are drawn from Leica's repertoire, and footage can be recorded in 10-bit I-Log with Dolby Vision for full grading flexibility.
Stabilization and Tracking
The gimbal uses a 3-axis mechanical system working in tandem with electronic image stabilization, while Deep Track 5.0 handles AI-powered subject tracking — including Auto Tracking, Active Zoom Tracking, Group Tracking, and Smart Framing.
The detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen is one of the more genuinely useful additions: it works as a remote monitor with HD transmission up to 20 meters away, in both portrait and landscape orientation. Audio is handled by a four-microphone array.
Storage, Battery, and Build
The Luna Ultra ships with 47GB of internal storage and supports microSD cards up to 1TB. Battery capacity is 1,550mAh, rated for around four hours of recording. It weighs 233–235g and comes in Cosmic Black and Stellar White.
The base model starts at $769.99, with bundles ranging from a $764.99 Standard kit to a $972.99 Creator bundle that adds a mic, wide-angle lens, battery handle, and carry bag. The camera is available now through Insta360's official store, with shipping quoted at two business days.
