Canon is bringing the EOS R8 Mark II to the Philippines this September, giving local creators access to what the company bills as its lightest full-frame camera with in-body stabilization. Canon Philippines has not announced local pricing yet — it says the figure "will be revealed soon" — so the reference point for now is the US price of $1,899 (around ₱119,000) body only, or $2,099 (around ₱131,000) in a kit with the RF24-50mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM lens.
Announced globally on September 15, the camera keeps the 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor of the original EOS R8 — which launched in 2023 without any in-body stabilization — and fixes that model's most-cited omission.
What's new versus the original EOS R8
The headline change is a 5-axis In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS) with Coordinated Control, which combines body and lens stabilization; a Peripheral Coordinated Control mode targets edge blur on wide-angle lenses. Newsshooter's coverage of the announcement lists the other verified upgrades over the first R8:

The battery (LP-E17) and single SD UHS-II card slot carry over unchanged. At 546g with battery and card — 499g body only — Canon calls it the lightest EOS body with IBIS to date.

For video shooters, recording time runs to roughly six hours per clip, with a 3.5mm mic jack and HDMI Type D output capable of 4K 60fps. Every video frame rate supports audio recording as well as Slow & Fast motion, and USB charging works through Canon's PD-E2 and PD-E1 adapters.
Accessories
Canon is releasing an EG-E2 Extension Grip at $99.99 (around ₱6,300) for larger hands and an updated Speedlite EL-5 Ver.2 flash at $379 (around ₱23,700) with extended wireless range, plus a free Dual Pixel 3D Converter application for Windows. For the local market, Canon Philippines also lists the DR-E18 DC Coupler, AC-E6N AC Adapter, and ACK-E18 Adapter Kit for powered shooting setups.
What Filipino buyers should watch for
The timing detail worth noting: Canon Philippines says the camera is coming to the country within September 2026, while US shipping is slated for late October — so watch Canon Philippines' channels for the exact local shelf date and the official peso SRP, which may not track the converted US figure once local taxes and distribution are factored in. Until that SRP lands, the honest answer on value is "wait and see": the original EOS R8's appeal was aggressive pricing for a full-frame body, and whether the Mark II repeats that locally depends entirely on the peso price Canon sets.
