When a fiber cable gets nicked by construction work or a typhoon knocks out service, most Philippine households face the same routine: wait, tether to a phone's mobile data, or go offline. PLDT Home is trying to eliminate that window entirely with Fiber Always On, a hybrid modem that combines fiber and LTE in a single device.
The way it works is straightforward: the modem maintains a live fiber connection as the primary path. The moment fiber drops, the unit automatically switches over to its built-in LTE backup — no manual activation, no switching to a mobile hotspot, no secondary subscription needed. Once the fiber line is restored, the modem switches back on its own. PLDT also says the device auto-generates a service repair ticket within 15 minutes of any detected outage, theoretically accelerating the resolution timeline.
PLDT is positioning this as a Philippine first: the company claims to be the only local ISP to offer a hybrid fiber-and-LTE modem as a single integrated product rather than as two separate devices or subscriptions managed in parallel.
