A ₱1,000 discount window opens this week for Xiaomi's newest budget phones: from October 23 to 31, the Redmi 17 sells for ₱11,999 and the Redmi 17 5G for ₱13,999, both built around a 7,500mAh battery, JAM Online reports. After the first-sale window, prices return to the ₱12,999 and ₱14,999 suggested retail prices.
Redmi 17 vs Redmi 17 5G: what the ₱2,000 gap buys
| Model | SRP | Early bird (Oct 23–31) | Chipset |
|---|
| Redmi 17 (4G) | ₱12,999 | ₱11,999 | MediaTek Helio G91-Ultra |
| Redmi 17 5G | ₱14,999 | ₱13,999 | Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 |
Both prices are for the 4GB RAM + 128GB storage configuration, per JAM Online and Manila Shaker. Manila Shaker lists 6GB RAM and 256GB storage options in the lineup, but Philippine pricing was announced only for the 4GB/128GB models.
The ₱2,000 difference buys you Qualcomm's newer Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 and 5G data. If you are on a prepaid plan and your area still runs mostly on 4G, the standard model does the same job for less; if you want the phone to stay current for several years of network upgrades, the 5G model is the safer pick.
The 7,500mAh battery is the headline
Both phones carry a 7,500mAh battery with 45W wired charging — a full charge in about 96 minutes, or a 35-minute top-up for a typical day of use, per JAM Online. Xiaomi's endurance claims: up to 28 hours of video playback and 46 hours of calls on the 4G model, and up to 109 hours of wireless music playback and 53 hours of talk time on the 5G.
There is also 22.5W reverse wired charging over USB-C, so the phone can top up earbuds, a smartwatch, or another phone — genuinely useful during a brownout, when a big-battery phone doubles as a small power bank.
Shared specs — and one caveat on the screen
The rest of the hardware is identical across the pair, and Xiaomi's official product page confirms the key figures: a 6.9-inch display with AdaptiveSync up to 120Hz, Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, IP64 dust and splash resistance with Wet Touch, the 7,500mAh battery and 45W charging.
The caveat: Manila Shaker lists the display resolution at 1600 x 720. On a panel this large, that HD+ resolution means visibly lower sharpness than the Full HD+ screens on slightly pricier phones — the clearest trade-off Xiaomi made to hit the price.
Elsewhere you get a 50MP main camera with an 8MP front camera and video capped at 1080p/30fps (per Manila Shaker), dual stereo speakers, a rear RGB notification light, NFC, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and microSD expansion up to 2TB. Both ship with HyperOS 3 — one version behind the HyperOS 4 rollout that began reaching other Xiaomi phones on October 15.
The VIP Card: after-sales cover valued above the phone itself
Buy during the October 23–31 first sale and Xiaomi includes a VIP Card with after-sales protection it values at up to ₱21,200, per JAM Online: one free battery replacement within 3 years, one free screen replacement within 2 years, one free back cover or camera lens replacement within 2 years, and a 24-month extended warranty. By Xiaomi's own valuation, that package is worth more than the ₱11,999 early-bird phone.
How it stacks up against the Redmi Note 17
Xiaomi's own Redmi Note 17, launched here in September, is the most direct alternative at this money. Newsbytes.PH reported the base model at ₱13,999, sold through Xiaomi's official Lazada and Shopee stores, and REVU lists its key specs.
| Phone | PH price | Display | Battery | Chipset |
|---|
| Redmi 17 (4G) | ₱12,999 (₱11,999 early bird) | 6.9" 720p, 120Hz | 7,500mAh, 45W | Helio G91-Ultra |
| Redmi 17 5G | ₱14,999 (₱13,999 early bird) | 6.9" 720p, 120Hz | 7,500mAh, 45W | Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 |
| Redmi Note 17 | ₱13,999 | 6.99" FHD+ AMOLED, 120Hz | 7,700mAh, 45W | Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 2 |
At nearly the same price, the Note 17 gives you a sharper AMOLED screen and a slightly bigger battery, but no 5G. The Redmi 17 5G is the pick if 5G matters to you; the Note 17 is the better screen for the money if it does not.
Neither launch report named Redmi 17 retailers, and the phones were not yet listed on Xiaomi's Philippine online store as of October 20. The Note 17 sold through Xiaomi's official Lazada and Shopee stores, so watch those channels when the first sale opens. With memory-chip costs already pushing device prices up industry-wide, the October 23–31 window is the sensible time to buy if you were getting one anyway.
