The Kia Sportage is back in Philippine showrooms, and this time it is a hybrid. Kia Philippines launched the Sportage Turbo Hybrid on July 24 at ₱1,978,000 for the entry EX variant, with an introductory price of ₱1,898,000 running until the end of July. The higher SX variant is ₱2,098,000.
It is the model's return to the local line-up after being discontinued here in 2021, and it is Kia's first hybrid SUV offered in the Philippines.

Both variants are front-wheel drive and share dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, 60:40 split rear seats, a power tailgate and 18-inch alloy wheels, according to AutoIndustriya. Six airbags and tyre-pressure monitoring are standard.
DriveWise on the SX is the meaningful gap between the two. It bundles forward collision avoidance, lane keep assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, rear cross-traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking and smart cruise control — the safety systems that actually intervene, rather than just warn.
How the turbo hybrid powertrain works
The Sportage pairs a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 1.49 kWh lithium-ion battery, sending a combined 235 PS and 367 Nm of torque through a six-speed automatic gearbox.
This is a conventional hybrid, not a plug-in. The battery is small by design and recharges from the engine and from braking — there is nothing to plug in, and no charger to install at home. The motor mainly fills in at low speeds and during acceleration, which is where a petrol engine is least efficient.
Kia Philippines quotes up to 20.8 km/L in urban driving and roughly 1,080 km of range per tank on its official Sportage page. Manufacturer economy figures are best-case numbers; real-world consumption in Metro Manila traffic will be lower.
Size, warranty and where to see it
The Sportage measures 4,660mm long, 1,865mm wide and 1,665mm tall, with 181mm of ground clearance and a 2,195 kg kerb weight. Colours are Wolf Grey, Snow White Pearl, Gravity Grey, and Heritage Blue exclusive to the SX.
Coverage is 5 years or 160,000 km on the vehicle, and 8 years or 160,000 km on the hybrid battery — the battery warranty being the number that matters most to anyone worried about a costly out-of-warranty replacement.
The launch is anchored by a display at the SM Aura Upper Ground Atrium in Bonifacio Global City from July 24 to 26, as CarGuide.PH reported ahead of the event. The Sportage Turbo Hybrid is at Kia dealerships nationwide.
Does a hybrid SUV make sense here yet?
For Philippine buyers, a conventional hybrid sidesteps the problem that still limits full electric vehicles locally: charging. There is no home installation, no route planning around chargers, and no range anxiety — you refuel at the same stations you always have. That is why hybrids have been the practical entry point for local buyers, and why Toyota's Land Cruiser HEV arrived here at ₱6.945 million into a market that had been waiting for it.
The pricing is the honest sticking point. At close to ₱2 million, the Sportage Turbo Hybrid sits above most petrol-only compact SUVs sold here, and fuel savings alone take years to close that gap at current pump prices. Government incentives could shift the maths — a Senate bill proposing free toll lanes and parking discounts is aimed at exactly this problem — but none of it is law yet, so buy on the vehicle rather than on incentives that may not arrive.
Worth noting that Kia's local distributor, ACMobility, is the same group expanding EV charging access for Grab drivers — a sign the electrified push here is coming from the distributor side, not only from the manufacturers.
