Wattpad is turning 20, and it is celebrating where one of its biggest audiences lives: the Manila International Book Fair (MIBF), running September 9 to 13 at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City. The storytelling platform is bringing some of its most-read Filipino authors to the fair for signings, a mainstage panel, and a booth built around its anniversary.
Who's signing at the Wattpad booth
The author lineup reads like a greatest-hits list of Filipino Wattpad, with combined read counts in the hundreds of millions:
- Knightinblack — Hell University, with more than 183 million reads
- eatmore2behappy — Ang Mutya Ng Section E, over 171 million reads
- 4reuminct — The Rain in España, over 161 million reads
- beeyotch — Seducing Drake Palma, over 85 million reads
- CeCeLib — the Possessive series, over 80 million reads
Signings and meet-and-greets run across three days of the fair, with multiple time slots per author.
Booth activities and schedule highlights
Wattpad sets up at Booths 2-156 and 2-157 on the second floor, open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Visitors can join a "Reader Passport" challenge — complete booth activities to collect exclusive 20th-anniversary merchandise.
Two dates stand out on the schedule:
- Friday, September 11, 1:30–2:30 p.m. — the "Just One More Chapter" mainstage panel
- Saturday, September 12 — a meet-and-greet held with The Hershey Company, Wattpad's partner for the anniversary activation
MIBF 2026: dates, tickets, and hours
This year's fair carries the theme "Get Lit: Reading in a New Light" and runs five days, September 9 to 13, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to The Manila Times. Entry is cheap by convention standards: general admission is ₱50, students and seniors with a valid ID pay ₱35, and teachers with a school ID get in free. Tickets are sold through SM Tickets and at the venue.
Organized by Primetrade Asia Inc., the fair gathers the country's biggest booksellers and publishers — National Book Store, Fully Booked, Adarna House, Anvil Publishing, and Summit Publishing among them — alongside international names such as Penguin Random House SEA and Cengage Learning Asia, plus the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Beyond the sales floor, the program promises deep book discounts, author signings, and interactive showcases, and the returning School World segment gives teachers, school administrators, and students a dedicated section for educational technology and learning materials.
Why the Philippines matters to Wattpad
Two decades after the platform launched in 2006, the Philippines has grown into one of Wattpad's largest markets worldwide — a community of millions of readers and writers on a platform that counts roughly 155 million monthly active users under parent company WEBTOON Entertainment. That local base is not just reading: Filipino Wattpad stories have repeatedly jumped from the app to bookstore shelves, television, and film, and the authors headlining the MIBF booth are among the platform's most-read anywhere, not just locally.
That is why the anniversary stop is happening in Pasay rather than a tech-conference stage. Serialized fiction read on a phone — free, in Taglish and English, updated chapter by chapter — filled a gap Philippine publishing could not, and MIBF is where those two worlds now meet: the same stories that racked up nine-digit read counts online get sold, signed, and queued for as paperbacks.
Twenty years in, the anniversary tour doubling as a Manila book-fair booth says something simple about where Wattpad's center of gravity sits. If you are going to MIBF for the signed paperbacks, arrive early — read counts in the nine digits tend to translate into long lines.
