Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders spiked 436% on August 27 — the day Netflix aired the game's 27-minute "Extended Look" — compared with the day before, according to market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. The estimate, reported by Notebookcheck on August 31, is the clearest sign yet that Rockstar Games' unusual streaming-first marketing move worked.
The numbers behind the surge, all from Sensor Tower's tracking:
| Metric | Figure |
|---|
| Pre-orders before the Netflix special | About 4.6 million |
| Pre-order jump, Aug 27 vs the previous day | +436% |
| Pre-order jump, Aug 27-28 vs the 30-day average | +572% |
| PS5 pre-order jump on Aug 27 | +606% |
| Xbox pre-order jump on Aug 27 | +127% |
Sensor Tower's figures are modelled estimates built from its own panel data, not official numbers — Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactive has not released pre-order counts. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has only described pre-orders as "exceptional."
PS5 keeps pulling away from Xbox
The PlayStation 5 was already the platform of choice for GTA 6 pre-orders — Sensor Tower attributes 77% of pre-orders to PlayStation and 23% to Xbox, GamesBeat reported — and the Netflix special widened that gap. PS5 pre-orders jumped 606% on August 27 against Xbox's 127%. It helps that the Extended Look itself was captured on PS5 hardware, giving Sony's console the showcase slot.
The more expensive Ultimate Edition, priced at $99.99 (around ₱6,200), continues to lead pre-order sales over the $79.99 (around ₱5,000) Standard Edition, per Notebookcheck's reading of the tracker.
Netflix felt the surge too
The Extended Look did not just sell game copies. Sensor Tower measured Netflix viewership rising 35% hour-over-hour when the presentation began, and roughly 50% above the same hour the previous day. Netflix's US mobile app users during the reveal ran almost 50% above the average of the previous 12 Thursdays, while web visitors ran more than 125% above the comparable average — enough load that the stream stumbled as it went live. In app-store terms, Netflix jumped to No. 35 on the US charts, up 61 places in 24 hours from its 30-day average of No. 76.
"Utilizing lexicon-stirring events tied to notable IP has helped expand Netflix's appeal as an all-encompassing entertainment platform," Sensor Tower senior insights analyst Abe Yousef told GamesBeat.

What Filipino gamers should know
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and pre-orders have been open in the Philippines since June. Digital pre-orders go through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store; physical reservations are available at local retailers such as DataBlitz and GameOne, typically with a ₱500 to ₱1,000 downpayment, per Too Much Gaming. Pre-orders opened worldwide on June 25, and all pre-order tiers include the Vintage Vice City Pack bonus content. One caveat for collectors: physical copies ship as a code-in-box, not a playable disc — there is no playable disc version at launch.
At $79.99 (around ₱5,000) for the Standard Edition, GTA 6 sits at the premium end of console game pricing here — and that is before factoring in the console itself, with the PS5 Pro's Philippine price recently climbing to ₱64,995. Rockstar has not announced any Philippine-specific pricing or promotions for the launch.
