If you did not lock in an iPhone Duo pre-order on October 16, you are likely waiting until 2027: Apple's US store now shows January 25 delivery dates for every variant, and in the Philippines, Smart has moved late applicants to a waitlist with no promised date. Apple's first foldable iPhone sold out within minutes, and the company calls the demand "nothing short of extraordinary."
How fast the iPhone Duo sold out
Pre-orders opened on October 16 at 8 a.m. New York time — 8 p.m. in Manila. Gizmodo tracked the US Apple Store as delivery estimates slipped from the October 23 launch day to mid-November in under five minutes. By 8:15 a.m. the earliest dates read December 8 to 15, and by 8:30 a.m. every color and storage option showed January 25, 2027. An hour in, nothing had improved, and launch-day store pickup showed only a "check back" notice.
In a statement quoted by Gizmodo, Apple said: "The pre-order demand for iPhone Duo, our first foldable iPhone, has been nothing short of extraordinary." The same report says resellers used automated checkout bots to buy stock in bulk, which made the queue worse for ordinary buyers.
The Next Web reported that Apple's own retail stores also ran out of launch-day stock quickly, and that the January dates applied to every storage tier from 256GB to 2TB.
What the iPhone Duo costs in the Philippines
Apple's Philippine store lists four configurations, all in Star White and Night Sky:
| Storage | Philippine price |
|---|
| 256GB | ₱159,990 |
| 512GB | ₱175,990 |
| 1TB | ₱207,990 |
| 2TB | ₱254,990 |
The page says the phone is "available starting October 30" — a week after the October 23 US release — but it displays no per-order delivery estimate, only a note that delivery is free on all orders.
The US base price is $1,999, or around ₱126,000 at current exchange rates (about ₱63 to the dollar). By our math, the ₱159,990 Philippine SRP sits roughly ₱34,000 above a straight conversion — in line with the local taxes and import costs seen on past iPhone launches. We covered the full local price list when Philippine pre-orders opened on October 16.
Smart's window lasted four hours — now it is a waitlist
Smart accepted iPhone Duo pre-orders only from 8 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on October 16, TechSabado reported, with monthly payments starting at ₱6,304 on Smart Postpaid Plans+ 1999 — a plan that bundles an open-line unit, 12 months of Unli 5G, and zero-interest credit card installments of up to 24 months through select banks. Customers who missed that window are placed on a waitlist through the Smart Online Store; Smart Infinity members can also go through their relationship manager or dial *800.
JAM Online reports that carrier reservation lists have begun routing late applicants to secondary waitlists with no guaranteed 2026 fulfillment, and that buyers without a verified release-day confirmation code are being slotted for early 2027.
Why supply is this tight
Apple reportedly raised iPhone Duo production by 30 percent to about 10 million units for 2026, according to China's Securities Times, as cited by Gizmodo. Counterpoint Research expects Apple to sell about 6 million units this year, per The Next Web — numbers that leave little slack if demand holds. Foldable screens and hinges are also harder to manufacture than regular phone parts, with lower yields, so output cannot ramp up quickly.
Foldables you can actually buy today
If the goal is a foldable this year rather than this particular foldable, two rivals are on sale in the Philippines now, per Pinoy Techno Guide's current price list:
| Phone | Current Philippine price |
|---|
| Apple iPhone Duo (256GB) | ₱159,990 — pre-order, listed available October 30 |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 (book-style) | from ₱109,990 |
| Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8 (clamshell) | from ₱77,990 |
The Galaxy Z Fold8 undercuts the Duo by ₱50,000 and is in stock today.
What to do if you still want a Duo
- Join the waitlist. Smart takes waitlist orders through the Smart Online Store; Infinity members can dial *800, per TechSabado.
- Check Apple's Philippine online store on October 30. That is the availability date the page lists, and no local delivery estimates have slipped publicly the way the US store's have.
- Be careful with resold units. Gizmodo documented reseller bots buying launch stock in bulk; an offer that arrives before official availability, or well above the ₱159,990 SRP, deserves caution.
