For the first time in the series' 25-year history, a Halo game is playable on a PlayStation console. Halo: Campaign Evolved, a ground-up remake of the original 2001 shooter Halo: Combat Evolved, opened early access on July 23, 2026, and it launches on three platforms at once: Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. Owners of the Premium edition can play now, Microsoft's Halo Studios confirmed, ahead of the full release on July 28.
This is also the first time a Halo game has arrived on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC on the same day, a notable moment for a franchise that spent two decades as an Xbox exclusive.
Why Halo on PlayStation is a big deal
Halo was the game that defined the original Xbox back in 2001 and stayed exclusive to Microsoft platforms for a generation. Bringing Campaign Evolved to PS5 continues Microsoft's shift toward putting its games wherever players are, rather than using them to sell one console. It follows earlier moves to spread Xbox titles beyond Xbox hardware, such as Xbox bringing backward-compatible classics to PC and handhelds.
Halo: Campaign Evolved early access and launch dates
- Early access: July 23, 2026, for Premium and Collector's edition owners
- General launch: July 28, 2026, for the Standard edition and Game Pass
Early access runs up to five days ahead of the general launch. In Japan and select Asia-Pacific markets, the dates shift one day later.
Prices and editions in pesos
On the PlayStation Store, the Standard edition costs $49.99 (around ₱3,090) and the Premium edition costs $69.99 (around ₱4,320), per PlayStation's listing. Peso figures are approximate, at about ₱61.75 to the US dollar. A physical Collector's edition, with a 12-inch Master Chief statue, a Cortana chip replica, and a SteelBook, was offered earlier but sold out ahead of launch, per the official editions page.
The Premium edition adds five days of early access, an armor pack, a digital artbook, and a short story. On Xbox, the game is available on day one through Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, and subscribers can upgrade to the Premium edition for about $20 (around ₱1,240).
What is in the remake
Campaign Evolved rebuilds the original Halo campaign with new graphics, updated controls, and online co-op for up to four players, up from the two-player co-op of the 2001 game. Halo Studios has also added three extra missions and an expanded set of weapons, vehicles, and enemies, so even players who finished the original have new ground to cover. The remake keeps the focus on the single-player campaign rather than shipping with a full competitive multiplayer suite at launch.
What it means for Filipino gamers
For PlayStation owners in the Philippines, this is the first chance to play a Halo campaign without buying an Xbox, a real shift for a series that was off-limits on Sony hardware for two decades. PC players get it on Steam, and the Asia-Pacific early-access timing meant many local players saw it go live on July 24. If you subscribe to Game Pass, the Standard game is included from July 28, so buying a separate copy is only worth it for the early-access head start or the Premium extras. For newcomers who never owned an Xbox, it is also a clean entry point: this is the story that started the whole series.
