The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has released its first official smartphone app, giving Filipinos direct access to PAGASA's weather data without having to navigate the agency's website or wait for broadcast bulletins.
The app is called PANaHON — short for PAGASA National Hydro-Meteorological Observing Network — and it was developed entirely in-house by the agency. It launched on June 15, 2026, during the government-declared Typhoon and Flood Awareness Week (June 14-20), a deliberate timing choice that underscores its primary use case.
What the app offers goes beyond a standard weather widget. PANaHON pulls near real-time observations from PAGASA's nationwide network of automatic and manned weather stations, giving users current conditions including rainfall totals, temperature, humidity, and wind speed at their pinned locations. Forecasts extend to a 5-day outlook with hourly breakdowns — data sourced in part from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), which adds international modeling precision to PAGASA's local station network.
