Huawei Launches HarmonyOS 7 Developer Beta with Agentic AI and Spatial Personalization

Huawei opened the developer beta for HarmonyOS 7 at its annual Huawei Developer Conference (HDC) 2026, held June 12–14, 2026. The release marks a significant architectural shift: the OS is evolving from a conventional app platform into what Huawei describes as an intelligent task platform built around agentic AI.

Agent-First Architecture

The centerpiece of HarmonyOS 7 is the upgraded HarmonyOS Intelligent Agent Framework 2.0. Rather than responding to individual queries, the AI assistant now performs multi-step task decomposition, tool calling, and autonomous execution — Huawei claims a task execution success rate exceeding 90%. The assistant can generate various types of text, retrieve information faster, and complete both system-level and in-app tasks with reduced user intervention.

Spatial Personalization and Visual Overhaul

A new feature called spatial personalization uses device hardware to convert standard wallpapers and lock-screen elements into 3D depth effects, giving the interface a sense of immersive presence. UI elements — buttons, sliders, and transitions — also receive fresh visual treatments as part of the HarmonyOS 7 aesthetic refresh.

Five Core Pillars

Huawei frames HarmonyOS 7 around five dimensions: intelligence, spatial computing, security, smoothness, and cross-device connectivity. An updated rendering pipeline delivers faster responsiveness and smoother animations across smartphones, tablets, PCs, wearables, and IoT devices.

Developer Beta Devices (China only)

Timeline and Ecosystem Scale

The stable HarmonyOS 7 release is expected in fall 2026, alongside the Huawei Mate 90 series. The HarmonyOS ecosystem currently spans 66 million devices running HarmonyOS 6, supported by over 11 million registered developers and more than 400,000 available apps.
