Apple just handed everyday iPhone owners the keys to its next big software update. On July 13, 2026, the company opened the iOS 27 public beta to anyone willing to try it — no paid developer account required — and released public betas of iPadOS 27, macOS 27 "Golden Gate", and watchOS 27 alongside it, as MacRumors reported. tvOS 27 joined the same day.
The build everyone is downloading is the same one developers received a week ago (developer beta 3), so it is relatively mature for a first public release — but it is still beta software, with the rough edges that implies.
Siri finally grows up
The headline of this release is Siri AI, the ground-up rebuild of Apple's assistant that the company previewed at its June developer conference. The old Siri answered one question at a time and forgot what you just said. This one holds a real back-and-forth conversation, follows up on earlier questions, reads what is on your screen, and can carry out multi-step tasks that reach across your apps. It can pull answers from your own messages and calendar, search the web, and — in one example Apple likes to show — scan a barcode with the camera and drop it straight into Wallet as a pass.
There are catches. Siri AI launches in English only, Apple may drop new users onto a waitlist before switching it on, and it is blocked in the European Union at launch while the company works through regulatory questions.
A faster phone, and a see-through one
Apple is also promising the update makes phones quicker — and says even older models benefit. Per 9to5Mac's rundown, apps can open up to 30% faster, nearby AirDrop transfers finish up to 80% faster, new shots land in Photos up to 70% faster, and the keyboard appears sooner. Those are the same gains Apple flagged earlier in the beta cycle, which we broke down in our look at the iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 speed improvements.
The Liquid Glass look Apple introduced last year gets a welcome dial: a new slider under Settings > Appearance lets you set how transparent the interface is, from crystal-clear to fully tinted, and it applies system-wide and to third-party apps.
Parents get a rebuilt Screen Time. New Time Allowances set limits per category — Games, Entertainment, Social Media — while Schedules decide when certain apps can open, and an "Ask to Browse" option extends permission requests down to individual websites, not just apps.
Smaller touches round it out: AI-assisted photo cleanup, Safari tab organization and price tracking, a password vulnerability check, and custom EQ for AirPods.
It's not just the iPhone
| Platform | Version | What stands out |
|---|
| iPhone | iOS 27 | Siri AI, Liquid Glass slider, new Screen Time, speed boosts |
| iPad | iPadOS 27 | Same core features, plus up to 5x faster external storage transfers |
| Mac | macOS 27 Golden Gate | Siri AI and Liquid Glass refinements on the desktop |
| Apple Watch | watchOS 27 | Siri on the wrist, Dynamic App Grid, upgraded cycle tracking |
On the watch, Siri AI gets its own dedicated app — a change we covered when it first surfaced in testing, in Siri AI arriving on Apple Watch.
Can your iPhone run it — and should you install it?
iOS 27 supports every iPhone that runs iOS 26 today: iPhone 11 and newer, plus the iPhone SE (2nd generation and later). Siri AI and the other Apple Intelligence features are pickier — they need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
To join, sign in at Apple's Beta Software Program site with your Apple Account, then open Settings > General > Software Update > Beta Updates and choose iOS 27 Public Beta. Back up your device first. Beta builds can drain the battery faster, break apps, and misbehave, so it is safer to put it on a spare device than on the phone you depend on daily.
What it means for Filipino users
For iPhone owners in the Philippines, the public beta is a free early look at the update most phones will get — also for free — this fall. Apple's Philippine site says Siri AI is "coming in English later this year" alongside the rest of Apple Intelligence, so anyone who runs their phone in English is in line to get it when iOS 27 ships. Because the assistant is English-only at first, Filipino users actually dodge the longer waits and regulatory blocks that some markets face. The one real catch is hardware: only the iPhone 15 Pro and newer clear the Apple Intelligence bar, so a still-supported older iPhone will run iOS 27 happily — just without the new Siri.
