Huawei Pura X View Debuts as the World's First Wide-Screen Slab Phone

Huawei has unveiled the Pura X View, the first regular (non-folding) smartphone built around a wide-screen display. Revealed in China on August 20, the phone turns the usual tall-and-narrow phone screen on its side with a 16:9.5 aspect ratio — closer to a small TV than to a typical flagship — ahead of a full launch on August 28.

A 16:9.5 screen on a normal phone

The Pura X View uses a 6.39-inch OLED panel with a 2,232 x 1,320 resolution. Because the panel is wider than usual, its actual display area comes to 114.27 square centimeters — more surface than many 6.9-inch phones offer. Huawei says the format gives 16% more screen area for video and 21% more viewable space for portrait web browsing compared with standard flagships, which is the whole pitch: most video is shot wide, and most phone screens are not.

The rest of the display spec is aggressive: 1.05mm bezels on all four sides for a 96.1% screen-to-body ratio, a claimed 6,500-nit peak brightness, a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and 2,160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming (a fast flicker-control technique that is easier on the eyes). The idea follows Huawei's earlier Pura X foldable, which also used a wide screen — but this time there is no hinge and no folding crease.

Slim body, big battery

Despite the unusual shape, the hardware is thin: 6.68mm and 201g, yet Huawei has fitted a 7,000mAh battery — larger than what most conventional flagships carry. On the back, the cameras sit in a racetrack-shaped bar with a striped texture that spans the width of the phone.

The Pura X View is also the first Huawei phone to ship with HarmonyOS 7.0, the company's own operating system that replaced Android on its devices. It comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage, in Shadow Red, Linen Grey, Zero White, and Phantom Black finishes. Reservations are already open on Huawei's VMall and JD.com in China, with in-store units arriving alongside the August 28 event.

What is still unconfirmed

Huawei has not yet published the full spec sheet. GSMArena's preliminary listing points to a 5nm Kirin 9030S chipset, a 120Hz LTPO panel, 66W wired charging, and a triple 50MP rear camera setup, but those details — along with pricing — remain unofficial until the August 28 event. As of publication, everything Huawei has confirmed itself covers the display, design, battery, software, and storage options.

Will it reach the Philippines?

No Philippine pricing or availability has been announced, and the original Pura X foldable never officially left China, so temper expectations. Huawei's local lineup is currently led by the Pura 90s series, which launched in the Philippines on August 20. If the Pura X View follows the same playbook, Filipino buyers would likely have to rely on grey-market imports rather than official channels — with the usual caveats on warranty and after-sales support.

FAQ

When will the Huawei Pura X View's price be announced?

Huawei will reveal full specifications, pricing, and availability at its China launch event on August 28, 2026.

Is the Huawei Pura X View a foldable?

No. Unlike the earlier Pura X, which folded, the Pura X View is a fixed slab phone with a wide 16:9.5 display in a 6.68mm body.

Does the Pura X View run Android?

No. It is the first Huawei phone to ship with HarmonyOS 7.0, Huawei's own operating system, so it does not use Google's apps or services.
