Filipino mobile gamers get a new open-world playground this week. Gangstar Mirage City, the free-to-play crime game from publisher Level Infinite under an official Gameloft license, launches on August 20 — and for the first time in the long-running Gangstar series, the game ships with full Tagalog text localization for Philippine players.
Launch details at a glance
- Launch date: August 20, 2026
- Regions: Southeast Asia, South Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East and North Africa, per Inquirer Technology
- Platforms: Android and iOS
- Price: Free-to-play
- Philippine head start: The game already had a soft launch in the Philippines earlier this year, so the August 20 rollout expands it to the wider region
A full global launch is planned for a later date, so this remains a regional release — but the Philippines is squarely inside it.
Tagalog support and the Manila Brigade
The Philippine push goes beyond translation. Level Infinite has set up the Manila Brigade, an official in-game faction for Filipino players, led by local content creators HolyFather and Galawang Bata Osas. It competes against rival country factions — Indonesia's War Kanda, Malaysia's Taiko Tedung, and Thailand's SIAM APEX.
Joining the Manila Brigade before launch earns players an exclusive in-game avatar. If the Philippine faction finishes with more members than its three rivals, every Manila Brigade member receives an extra 300 Diamonds, the game's premium currency. A local social media campaign is also raffling off a Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra.
Pre-registration rewards close out before launch
Pre-registration opened on July 2 and runs through August 18, according to GamingonPhone — which means today is the last day to sign up on Google Play or the App Store and lock in the milestone rewards. Community-wide targets unlock bonuses for everyone at launch:
- 5 million sign-ups — 100 Diamonds
- 10 million sign-ups — 200 Diamonds
- 20 million sign-ups — five Vehicle Upgrade Vouchers
- 30 million sign-ups — the Full Tilt vehicle pack
What kind of game is it?
Gangstar Mirage City is developed by Tencent Games, published under Tencent's Level Infinite label, and carries an official license from Gameloft, the studio behind the original Gangstar series. It drops players into a near-future open city where small-time criminals climb the underworld ladder by taking territory, building a reputation, and stacking money. Co-op heists support up to four players, and the game layers on player-versus-player shootouts, street races, a dedicated PvP arena mode, vehicle and weapon customization, and an empire-building system built around territory, reputation, and money.
In short, it aims to be the closest thing to a live-service Grand Theft Auto-style experience on phones — a niche with real demand among Filipino players, who pre-ordered GTA VI locally only to run into a region lock earlier this year.
Why the Philippine treatment matters
Big mobile releases usually reach the Philippines in English only, with localization reserved for larger markets. A day-one Tagalog option, a Filipino-led faction, and creator-driven community events signal that Level Infinite sees the Philippines as a priority market rather than an afterthought — consistent with how large the country's mobile gaming audience has become. The free-to-play model keeps the entry cost at zero, though as with any game of this type, expect optional in-app purchases built around the Diamond currency.
