What's New in Snapdragon X2
Both devices support two chip options: the 10-core Snapdragon X2 Plus or the 12-core Snapdragon X2 Elite. Surface Laptop 8 (13.8-inch and 15-inch)
The Surface Laptop 8 starts at $1,599 for the 13.8-inch (16GB / 512GB) and $1,699 for the 15-inch. A new Jade color joins Platinum, Black, and Dune on the 13.8-inch. The 15-inch model's display was upgraded from 201 PPI to 262 PPI pixel density and gains a microSD card slot alongside two USB4 ports. Both sizes use LCD touchscreens; neither gets an OLED panel this generation.

Build, Sustainability, and Repairability
Both products use 100% recycled aluminum enclosures, carry ENERGY STAR certification, and Microsoft claims 50% improved energy efficiency over the previous generation. A new Surface Repair Tool provides guided component-level repair instructions — a step toward making Surface hardware more serviceable, echoing similar moves by Framework and Dell toward right-to-repair compliance.
Affinity software (Publisher, Designer, Photo) comes pre-installed on the Start menu of new Surface devices — a bundling deal with Serif that extends the Copilot+ creative software story beyond Microsoft's own apps.
Price Context
At $1,499/$1,599, the new Surface Pro and Laptop represent a $100 increase over the Snapdragon X Elite entry points from 2024 and a $500–$600 premium over the budget Snapdragon X Plus tier that is no longer offered in the lineup.
